Abstract
This Regulation defines rules and issues as regards the ceramic articles intended to come in contact with food. This text further sets out the migration limits for lead and cadmium from ceramic articles which, as end products, are intended to come into contact with, or in contact with, food.
Ceramic products are products made from a mixture of inorganic materials, usually high in clay and silicates, to which a small amount of organic matter may be added. These products are first molded and the resulting shape is permanently cured by firing. They may be glazed, enamelled and/or decorated.
Ceramic products shall comply with the requirements if the quantities of lead and cadmium migrating to the food during tests that shall be performed in accordance with the conditions laid down in Annexes 2 and 3. The list of limits and parameters is laid down in Annex 1, all part of this publication. Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 October 2004 on materials and articles intended to come into contact with food and repealing Directives 80/590/EEC and 89/109/EEC is indicated as reference European Union document.
The Annex contain (Annex 1: migration limits for lead and cadmium; Annex 2: basic rules for determining the migration of lead and cadmium; Annex 3: analytical methods for the determination of lead and cadmium migration; and Annex 4: declaration of conformity for ceramic materials and articles).

Entry into force notes
This Regulation entered into force on the fifteenth day after its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia.

These rules are in accordance with the provisions of the Council Directive 84/500/EEC of 15 October 1984 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to ceramic articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs.
