Abstract
This Regulation defines all polymeric materials and deriving articles which, as final products, are intended to come into contact with foodstuffs.
Polymeric materials and articles include: materials and articles, and parts thereof consisting exclusively of polymeric materials; multilayer polymeric materials and articles; layers of polymeric materials or a plasticized layer for cover seals consisting of two or more layers of different types of materials.
All polymeric materials and articles must satisfy the requirements of Annexes I, II, III, IV, IVa, V and VI of the Commission Directive 2002/72/EC. The list of additives which may be used for the manufacture of plastic materials and articles, together with restrictions or requirements for their use, is also part of the above mentioned document.
The constituents of plastic materials and articles must not migrate to food in quantities exceeding 60 milligrams of ingredients released per kilogram of food or food simulant (mg / kg) (total migration limit), see article 5 for more details.
The Annex is also part of this publication (declaration of conformity).

Entry into force notes
This Regulation entered into force on the day after its publication in the Official Gazette.

These rules are in accordance with the provisions of the Commission Directive 2002/72/EC of 6 August 2002 relating to plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs; and Commission Directive 2008/39/EC of 6 March 2008 amending Directive 2002/72/EC relating to plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
