Abstract
This Regulation specifies all polymeric materials and articles which, as final products, are intended to come into contact with foodstuffs. Polymeric materials and products are organic macromolecular compounds obtained by polymerization, polycondensation, polyaddition, or any other similar process, from molecules with a lower molar mass or by chemical modification of natural macromolecules. Other substances may be added to such macromolecular compounds. The polymeric materials and articles referred to in the previous paragraph must satisfy the requirements of Annexes I, II, III, IV, IVa, V and VI of Directive 2002/72/EC.
The production of plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with non-compliant foodstuffs shall be prohibited from the date of entry into force of this Regulation and shall be prohibited from 1 June 2011.
These rules are in accordance with the following documents: Commission Directive 2002/72/EC of 6 August 2002 relating to plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs; and Commission Directive 2011/8/EU of 28 January 2011 amending Directive 2002/72/EC as regards the restriction of use of Bisphenol A in plastic infant feeding bottles.
The Annex is also part of this publication (declaration of conformity).
