Abstract
This Resolution adopts the Slovenian national Nutrition and Physical Activity Programme for the programmed period from the year 2015 until the year 2025. This text declares that healthy eating and regular physical activity are key factors in protecting and promoting health, contributing to better overall health conditions, better quality of life and sustainability of health systems.
The vision of this Programme states that in the Republic of Slovenia, all residents should have good eating and exercise habits and access to healthy choices for eating and physical activity, resulting in a higher individual quality of life and health. The above mentioned 2015-2025 National Programme aims to improve the nutrition and exercise habits of the population from an early age to an advanced age. Thereby, it is meant to stop and reverse the trend of weight gain in the population of the Republic of Slovenia. These measures are further aimed to offer equal opportunities for health for all residents, including socially and economically disadvantaged groups, in order to positively influence the bio-psycho-social development of the individual.
Some of the direct measures are aimed at: improving the supply of healthy choices in cooperation with stakeholders in the food, trade and catering and tourism sectors; ensuring that healthy nutrition choices are made available to socio-economically disadvantaged groups; providing safe and wholesome food with a focus on local sustainable supply and self-care; labelling, presentation and marketing of foodstuffs; providing the necessary education, training and research; providing the necessary information with the goal of general awareness raising.
Key goals and strategic objectives that are expected form measures here listed are as follows: reduce the proportion of overweight and obese people; reduce the proportion of residents who are physically inactive; increase the proportion of breastfeeding children; reduce the proportion of malnourished and functionally disabled older people and patients; increase the effective consumption of vegetables and fruits; reduce the intake of saturated fat, sugar and salt; reduce the trans-fat content of foods.
The principles adopted and respected in this Programme are: health in all policies; integrity of action; ethics; accessibility; partnership; efficiency and financial sustainability; reduction of health inequalities; sustainable development. Effective coordination and cooperation at the inter-ministerial level is necessary to ensure that all policies and available financial instruments of the Republic of Slovenia and the EU are fully utilized. In the Republic of Slovenia, there are some examples of cross-sectoral well-functioning systemic measures that allow healthy choices, such as the system of organized nutrition in educational institutions (kindergartens and schools). The advantage of providing healthy choices in educational institutions is that they are, in principle, systemic and sustainable solutions.
The text is divided into twelve thematic Chapters, containing related codified subsections.
