Abstract
The structure European Union Strategy for sustainable and smart mobility directing European traffic on the right path for the future, adopted and implemented by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, sets sustainable and innovative approaches to the general mobility sector in Europe, also in terms of environmental protection and emissions control. Mobility, which encompasses everything from daily commuting, visiting family and friends and tourism to the proper functioning of global supply chains to supply our stores with goods and our industrial production, is the foundation of our economic and social life. The free movement of persons and goods across internal borders is a fundamental freedom of the European Union (EU) and its single market. Due to the high share of total greenhouse gas emissions in the EU, the EU's target of at least 55% reduction of greenhouse gases by 2030 and reaching climate neutrality by 2050 will only be achieved if more ambitious policies to reduce transport's dependence on fossil fuels are adopted without delay and in synergy with zero pollution efforts.
