Abstract
This Country Food and Agriculture Delivery Compact provides for supporting Sierra Leone to become food self-sufficient, reduce dependence on food importation, boost exports of processed crops, and also create jobs in rural areas. This Compact aims to increase milled rice production, cassava production, for the purpose of processing into flour and starch, by at least 25% annually, by investing in irrigation, mechanisation, and processing. The Compact also focuses on the improvement of livestock production, in order to reduce importation of dairy and poultry products. Further measures are the establishment of five Farm Service Centres across the country, in order to solve coordination problems among actors and activities on the ground and provide critical infrastructure such as storage and resource centre for processing and use of machines and equipment for farming; the strengthening of agriculture technologies and data systems, to maximise the insight from different and discrete sources of data. These measures rely on the private sectors and need public private partnership (PPP) arrangements for their implementation.
