Abstract
This second National Action Plan for the full implementation of the United Nation Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 1820 is organised into the following overarching pillars: 1) prevention of conflict in communities and addressing the root causes of conflicts at all levels; 2) protection and support of women, girls and other vulnerable persons; 3) participation and representation of women in leadership at all levels of decision-making in peace-building and development processes; 4) promotion of peace culture and empowerment of communities to sustain their own well-being, environmental security and early responses to health emergencies; 5) promotion of effective coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the National Action Plan. On these bases, this National Action Plan provides an overview of the security situation in the country and highlights the major issues deepened by gender inequality and discrimination of women: consequences of extreme weather events, such flooding and natural disasters; environmental unfriendly activities, such as deforestation and inadequate management of natural resources.
The full implementation of this Plan with the application of the gender approach and the improvement of women’s participation and representation in governance is achieved through the following objectives and measures: communities’ stakeholders’ commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and conflict reduction; capacity building and strengthening on practices to deal with environmental disasters and health emergencies; maintaining good hygiene and sanitary practices; training women, girls and youth on the proper use of energy sources and fuel saving stoves; defining woodlots for fuel wood use; planting fruit and nut trees around houses and farmlands at community levels; improving environmental natural resources management and conservation.
