WASH Sector Policy.

The WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Sector Policy 2019 has as main goal to ensure provision of safe, affordable, equitable, quality and sustainable management of water, hygiene and sanitation for all.
The Policy's objectives are: 1) To increase access to safe water supply in urban and rural areas through a coordinated approach and achieve high coverage of piped water in line with the national and international goals and targets (SDG); 2) To increase equitable access to sustainable sanitation services, promote hygiene behavior change at scale and end open defecation in line with the national and international goals and targets (SDG); 3) To provide efficient, environmentally friendly and culturally appropriate sewerage management system and improve the management of solid, liquid and hazardous wastes; 4) To establish and strengthen the institutional, management and legal framework for the proper management of water resources as well as hygiene and sanitation services; 5) To promote community participation, private sector engagement, in-sectoral coordination and donor partnerships for the holistic and sustainable development of the sector; 6) To establish a robust and vibrant information management and early warning system to use for proper planning of the sector, track the progress, improve accountability and properly manage water resources, hygiene and sanitation services.
The WASH Sector Policy priorities are: 1) Water resource Management; 2) Hygiene and Sanitation (waste management “solid and liquid” urban sanitation, rural sanitation, healthcare waste management); 3) WASH in Institutions; 5) Leadership and Governance (policy and legal framework, partnerships and coordination, monitoring, evaluation and learning, institutional development, etc) 6) WASH Sector Financing; 7) Information management system including early warning and surveillance system; 8) WASH Infrastructure; 9) WASH in Emergency.
