Abstract
This Decree of the President of Suriname provides with respect to protection and management of animal species (which includes animals indicated as "other protected", "hunting animals", "captive animals", and "predominantly harmful animals"; these animal species are listed in Appendices I to IV). These categories of animals may be subject to hunting at certain conditions. This Decree specifies conditions for hunting and the successful application for a hunting licence. It also provides rules regarding hunting methods and trade in wildlife. The Decree divides Suriname in a Northern Zone and a Southern Zone. Different hunting and protection regimes may apply to these zones. The hunting regime for the Southern Zone takes into account the scarce population and the dependence on food intake from game.
