Abstract
This Strategy include an inventory and mapping of the Nile Basin’s Wetlands, piloted trans-boundary wetland management plans, and implementation of key international conventions and agreements together with international best practices.It is aimed that this updated Strategy will support the Nile Basin countries’ efforts to reduce the rapid degradation of wetlands in the region, regulate and guide multiple developments in order to diminish existing pressures in a way that restores the Basin wetlands adaptive potential and therefore strengthens the overall resilience of the Basin’s hydrological system. The updated Strategy will play a vital role in decreasing poverty, maintaining precious ecosystems and rich biodiversity, increasing rural development, maintaining pollution, stabilizing hydro-power, and limiting displacement of people.
The Strategy is designed in 4 Chapters and discuss about the followings: Introduction on Sudd wetland, management strategy and preparatory process (1); Policy, legal and institutional framework for wetland management in South Sudan (2); Vision, goal and objectives of the Sudd wetland management strategy (3); Implementation arrangements including action plans, prioritisation, and national lead agency.
