Abstract
This Decree-Law approves the Regulation on Hunting. This Regulation, consisting of 7 Chapters and 7 Annexes, aims to establish the legal framework for conservation and exploitation of hunting resources as well as the preservation of hunting heritage, ensuring the sustainable exploitation, compatible with the local populations and their ecosystems. It applies to all the wild fauna living or transiting through the national territory, with the exception of the endangered species protected by law. It regulates the hunting licensing, the fauna, the exercise of hunting, the hunting activity schemes as well as the management and supervision of the hunting zones and related penalties for illegal activities.
The Regulation is divided as follows: General provisions (I); Definitions (II); Hunting licences (III); Wild Fauna species (IV); Hunting activity (V); Regimes for Hunting activities and Hunting Areas Management and Control (VI); Implementation of legislation, offences and penalties (VII). Annexes specify the requirements to benefit from a hunting licence, lay down lists of authorised and unauthorised animals to be hunted within the São Tomé and Príncipe territory, endangered species, etc.

This Decree-Law repeals Decree No. 40040 of 26 March 1955 laying down the legal framework for soil protection and the local fauna and flora species.
