Abstract
This updated version of the National Determined Contributions represents the strengthening of the country’s commitment towards the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and the path towards sustainable low-carbon and climate-resilient economy, increasing resilience against the adverse effects of climate change. This Contribution presents improvements in relation to the mitigation, adaptation, and cross-sectoral measures, covering the following sectors: energy sources, transport, fishery, agriculture, livestock farming, forestry, water, and waste sectors civil protection. Mitigation measures focus on: increase in renewable energy share integrated in the national grid; reduction in power grid losses and increase of energy efficiency; significant reduction in the transport sector’s carbon footprint. Concerning adaptation, this Contribution aims at strengthening technical and institutional capacities, mainstreaming climate resilience into national and subnational planning through processes involving public participation and engagement with local communities and indigenous peoples, in a gender-responsive manner.
Targeted measures concern: reduction of use of nitrogen-based fertilisers; sustainable management of forest and management of forest ecosystem and protected areas; reduction of illegal logging; rehabilitation of the water distribution grid, dams, and reservoirs; ensuring potable water access for isolated communities; implementation of the integrated watershed management plan and water security; production and improvement of pasture management, fodder, and silage production; strengthening of infrastructure, equipment, and sustainable good management practices concerning fisheries; improvement of security measures for artisanal fisheries; improvement of final disposition of waste to reduce uncontrolled deposits and burnings in open waste dumps across the country; development of public private partnerships (PPP), for the creation of green employment.
