Resolution No. 47/T of 2003 defining the requirements and measures for the diagnosis, prevention and combating of Bees Paenibacillus Larvae Epidemic.

This Resolution is composed of 7 articles. Article 1 defines the Bees Paenibacillus Larvae Epidemic which is generated by an organic germ which causes the death of all afflicted larva. Article 3 deals with field and laboratory diagnosis methods and analysis sampling. Article 4 deals with measures to be taken once the existence of the disease in a beehive has been ascertained which are: (a) destruction and damage of bees, larva and honey according to laws in force; (b) sterilization of the rest of the beehives by the using Formalin at a 10 percent concentration; (c) field and laboratory treatment of the sound and non-affected parts; (d) prohibition to transport or transfer the afflicted groups; (e) prohibition to use the honey produced by afflicted groups to feed other groups or for industrial use; (f) prohibition to transport or transfer instruments and equipment from the afflicted beehive to other beehives; and, (g) disinfestations of the clothes of bee breeders by using Formalin at a concentration of 10 percent. The Technical Controllers shall have the responsibility for carrying out the aforementioned measures (art. 5). Transgressors shall be punished by applying the provisions of the Animal Resources Protection Law (art. 7).
