Resolution No. 772 defining requirements and conditions for private butchers.

This Resolution is composed of 11 articles. The butcher profession, for retail sale, in the private sector shall be subject to a previous licence issued by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade (art. 1). Requirements and conditions necessary for obtaining licences are the following: (a) applicants must be Syrian citizens; (b) possessers of sanitary cards; (c) holders of municipality licences for shops; and, (d) to be registered in the Commercial Register (art. 2). Obligations of licensees are: (a) to declare clearly kinds of meat and prices; and, (b) to put licences in an evident place (art. 4). The following acts shall be prohibited: (a) gathering between two different red meat; (b) gathering between fresh meat and frozen meat; (c) slaughtering in an un-authorized slaughterhouse; (d) possess meat not destined for human consumption; and, (e) possess contraband meat (art. 5). Revocation or renewal of licences is provided for in articles 6 and 7. The competent Department shall inspect and control on the compatibility of butcher shops with with the aforementioned requirements (art. 8).
