Abstract
This Act consisting of 10 articles aims to enhance the pineapple industry in Eswatini by establishing the Eswatini Pineapple Association. The primary objectives include (i) assisting the industry; (ii) promoting production and processing; (iii) fostering cooperation between growers and canners; (iv) collecting relevant statistics. Articles 3-6 provide for the possibility of the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, on the Eswatini Pineapple Association’s recommendation, to impose an annual levy on pineapple growers and canners, with rates based on acreage or tonnage. The Association assesses and collects the levy, with interest applied to late payments. Funds are used for Association expenses, government research contributions, and related purposes. Article 7 establishes the Pineapple Research Committee to oversee research projects related to pineapple cultivation and processing.
