Abstract
This Act is enacted to set unified licensing criteria, create a quality control and inspection system in the slaughtering process and meat transportation so as to ensure food safety which protects consumers.
The Animal Slaughtering Business Supervision Committee shall be established. The Committee's powers and duties include: (1) Give advice to the Minister in determining measures to promote and support the operation of animal slaughtering businesses that meet standards in accordance with this Act; (2) Give advice to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives in issuing ministerial regulations under section 14; (3) Supervise the licensing and operation of animal slaughter operations to be in accordance with the criteria specified in this Act; etc.
In order to be engaged in the business of animal slaughter, a person need to obtain a license. The license holder must display the license in an open and easily visible place at his slaughterhouse. Animal disease inspectors shall examine animals for disease before slaughtering animals. No person who is not certified to sell meat in accordance with this Act is allowed to sell meat.
