Abstract
This Thailand's National Adaptation Plan (NAP) seeks to provide a comprehensive framework and guidelines for the relevant agencies to effectively integrate the adaptation of climate change into sectoral and local planning as well as informing the domestic budget allocation and guiding international support to meet the adaptation needs and priorities. It aims to create a climate-resilient society through collaborative efforts between the government, private sector, academia, and the public.
The NAP emphasizes building resilience and reducing vulnerabilities across key sectors such as water resources management, agriculture and food security, tourism, public health, natural resources management, and human settlements. Developed through a participatory process, the NAP integrates climate adaptation into national policies and plans, ensuring that all levels of government and sectors are involved. The NAP highlights the importance of international support in terms of financing, capacity building, and technology transfer to effectively implement the adaptation measures.
The NAP details specific adaptation actions for each sector, focusing on both immediate and long-term goals. For instance, water resources management includes measures for flood and drought management, while agriculture and food security emphasize sustainable farming practices and crop resilience. The NAP also addresses the need for climate-resilient infrastructure in urban areas and the protection of natural ecosystems. Monitoring and evaluation frameworks are established to track progress and effectiveness, with climate resilience indicators developed for sectors like water and agriculture.
