Abstract
This Thailand’s Second National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (2023–2027) responds to the rising threat of AMR, which causes more than 38,000 deaths annually in Thailand and imposes major economic burdens. Building on the first national plan (2017–2022), the new strategy maintains the One Health approach and addresses gaps such as growing AMR morbidity and low public awareness. It aims to reduce human AMR infections, antimicrobial consumption in humans and animals, and AMR contamination in food and the environment, while improving public AMR literacy and strengthening national AMR management capacity.
The Plan sets six strategies: integrated AMR surveillance; regulation of antimicrobial distribution; infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship in healthcare; AMR control in agriculture and animals; public awareness improvement; and strengthened governance. It emphasizes political commitment, cross-sector collaboration, and alignment with national and international policies. A structured monitoring and evaluation system supports progress tracking and adaptation throughout implementation.
