Abstract
This National Plan has been issued by the Cabinet with the aim of providing wider access to clean drinking water, expanding irrigation infrastructure and areas under irrigation, and preventing floods and droughts in core economic areas. It is also about, among other things, disaster prevention, restoring forest water sources, and water resource administration and management. The Plan is a kind of a roadmap for the Office of National Water Resources (ONWR). It is based on six main strategies: the correct management of water usage; water production security; flood control; water quality conservation; afforestation in watershed areas; prevention of soil damage; and managerial approach. The first part of the plan deals with management of water for consumption and general use. Under this part of the plan, the government is aiming to enhance the efficiency of running water systems. The second part deals with improvement of water security in the farming sector. The second part deals with improvement of water security in the farming sector. The third part is about flood control. The fourth part is about water quality management and water resource preservation, whereas the fifth part is about prevention and mitigation of soil erosion. The last part is about water governance.
