Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of water.

By the Presidential Decree No. 6560 of 14 December 2022, the Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of water has been approved. The Parties agree upon cooperation in the fields of: (I) providing engineering support for the existing domestic water supply facilities and for requirements of new facilities, and sharing knowledge about new technologies in water supply facilities especailly in water treatment plants, (II) technical cooperation on the issues of prevention of wastewater pollution on basin scale of wastewater treatment technologies, (III) sharing knowledge and experience on services like operation, maintenance and management and on transfer of these systems to beneficiaries of irrigation systems, and technical cooperation on freshwater fisheries, (IV) watercourse and water resources management, including decreasing water resources due to climate change, agricultural, industrial and domestic water requirements and water use designs, (V) developing mechanisms for effective drought management, (VI) modernization of current irrigation systems, appropriate water use in agriculture and reuse of water for irrigation, (VII) developing land use techniques which improve the conservation of water existing in soil, (VIII) identification of drought-resistant, less water consuming plant types, and production of high quality seeds, (IX) joint technical studies for preventing loss of drinking water and for providing healthy water, (X) preparation of river basin protection and management plans, (XI) preparation of flood and drought management plans, (XII) scientific and technical cooperation in the field of sustainable water management, water and wastewater treatment technologies, (XIII) training activities on the design and operation of water and wastewater treatment plants, and (XIV) agricultural drainage practices in irrigation schemes for sustainable environmental activities. This Agreement may be amended by mutual written consent. A Joint Committee will be established. The dispute may be solved through negotiation. This Agreement shall be valid for one year and may be extended or renewed for successive periods of one year with termination rights requiring six months written notice.
