Law No. 1669 “On plant nurseries.”

This Law establishes legal, organizational and economic grounds for growing and trade of fruit, evergreen and ornamental seedlings. Plant nurseries sector shall be intended plant cultivation industry, in which seedlings are grown by business entities specializing in the field of nursery management, in compliance with the requirements of standards and technical regulations. The basics of the organization of activities in plant nurseries sector shall be as follows: (a) selection of a land plot with the consideration of climatic, natural and socio-economic factors, varieties and types of seedlings and their zoning; (b) ensuring rational operation of the components of the nursery management system; (c) prevention of seedlings infection with infectious diseases and pests subject to quarantine; (d) establishment of unified requirements for planting material, process of cultivation, storage, transportation and trade; and (e) rational use of genetic pool of varieties for the development of new varieties with improved biological and economic characteristics and conservation of biological diversity of seedlings. The Law consists of V Chapters divided into 19 Articles. Chapter I lays down general provisions. Chapter II regards state management of plant nurseries sector. Chapter III regards growing and trade of planting material and seedlings. Chapter IV regards organization of stool-beds and seed nursery, Chapter V lays down final provisions.
