Law No. 939 “On firearms”.

This Law regulates social relations arising from the circulation of civil, official, military weapons and ammunition in the Republic of Tajikistan and is aimed at protecting the life and health of citizens, property, ensuring public safety, protecting the environment and natural resources, strengthening international cooperation for combating arms trafficking. Article 6 state that firearms for civic uses include firearms intended for use by citizens in self-defense, sports and hunting. Hunting weapons shall be classified as follows: (a) long-barrelled firearms with rifled barrel; (b) smooth-bore firearms, including weapons with a non-circular profile of the barrel with a length of rifled parts of not more than one hundred and forty millimeters; (c) combined firearms (smooth-bore and rifled), including interchangeable and supplementary rifled barrels; (d) airguns with a muzzle energy of not more than twenty-five Joules; and (e) cold blade arms. Article 11 states that sport and hunting social associations shall be granted the right to purchase sport and hunting firearms. Article 13 states that civic and hunting firearms with a rifled barrel must perform test fire with a view of formation of a state bullet pool for extending the period of validity of the permit for storage and carrying firearms issued by a unit of the Ministry of Interior, and also after repairing main parts of firearms, replacing or machining working (mechanical tooling) of the firing hammer, as well as selling weapons to another person. Article 18 states that citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan who have reached the age of twenty, after obtaining permission to acquire a specific type of firearm issued by a unit of the Ministry of Interior at the place of residence, have the right to acquire sports and hunting firearms. Citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan engaged in professional and artisanal hunting, have the right on the basis of a permit to acquire a smooth-bore hunting firearm. Citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan engaged in professional activities related to hunting, or artisanal hunters who have owned hunting smooth-bore firearms for at least five years and have not committed any offenses related to the violation of the rules of hunting, acquisition, accounting, storage, carrying, transportation and use firearms, have the right to acquire a combined hunting firearm and hunting firearms with a rifled barrel. The total number of hunting firearms with rifled barrels and smooth-bore hunting firearms purchased by a citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan shall not exceed two pieces of each type. Permit for storage and carrying hunting firearms shall be issued for the period of three years.
