Program of improvement and rationalization of the use of pastures in the Republic of Tajikistan for the period of 2009-2015.

Program of improvement and rationalization of the use of pastures in the Republic of Tajikistan for the period of 2009-2015 is a multisectoral policy document aimed at increasing grazing feed, helping to increase livestock numbers, production of meat and milk, skin, in all forms of management of business entities, meeting the needs of the population in food, providing industry with raw materials and the creation of new jobs. National pastures are the main source of supply of feed for cattle, sheep and goats, horses, and provide over 70-80% of their annual needs. Pasture improvement has a special place in ensuring food security of the nation and poverty reduction.
The Program is designed to increase pasture feed stocks by sowing natural grass seeds and increasing productivity up to 15-20 hundredweight of feed unit. Increase of pasture productivity promotes ecofriendly production of pure meat at a low cost. As a result, households will receive greater economic gains and will be conducive to increasing national economy.
To ensure the implementation of the Program, the following problems shall be addressed: (a) determining the terrain of winter pastures to radically improve their state; (b) cleaning pasture plots from stones, shrubs, poisonous grass, levelling pits and lowlands; (c) purchase of sowing grass seeds; (d) the use of machinery and equipment for sowing work; (e) acquisition of fuels and lubricants; (f) mobilization of labor; (f) protection of sowing pasture plots; (g) construction of bridges and road repairs for the use of pastures that were previously unused; and (h) large-scale attraction of domestic and foreign investments for the improve of pasture conditions.
