Abstract
This Decree-Law, consisting of six Chapters, establishes the requirements to be met by instalment, operation and licensing of slaughterhouses for bovine, buffalo, sheep, goats and swine animals. It aims at defining the slaughterhouse as industrial property approved and licensed by the competent authorities for performing animal slaughtering and treating carcasses of bovine, buffalo, sheep, goats and swine intended for public consumption or industry. Slaughterhouses are classified according to the following categories: a) Slaughterhouses for public service: those designed exclusively to provide services to third parties; b) Slaughterhouses for private service: those aimed exclusively at the service of companies that own them; c) Slaughterhouses for mixed service: those designed either to the provision of services to third parties, or in the service of holding companies.
