Decree-Law No. 49/2022 on Agricultural Cooperatives.

This Decree-Law, complementary to the general legal regime for cooperatives, approved by Decree-Law No. 16/2004, creates the conditions in the agricultural sector, for agricultural cooperatives to respond to the specific needs of farmers and show themselves capable of transforming subsistence agriculture into a business and associative agriculture. Agricultural cooperatives are those whose main object is, namely: a) Agricultural, livestock and forestry production; b) Collection, concentration, processing, conservation, storage and disposal of goods and products from the holdings of its members; c) Production, acquisition, preparation and packaging of agricultural products and the acquisition of animals for the farms of its members or for its own activity; d) Establishment and provision of agricultural services, namely of organizational, technical, technological, economic, financial, commercial, administrative and associative nature; e) Management and use of irrigation water and the administration, operation and conservation of the respective irrigation works and equipment that the law provides may be administered or managed by cooperatives.
