Abstract
This Decree-Law establishes the structure of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry (MAPPF) as the government department responsible for the design, execution, coordination and evaluation of the policy, defined and approved by the Council of Ministers, for the above mentioned areas. The Ministry is responsible in particular to: a) Propose related policy, legislation and regulatory projects; b) Ensure the implementation and continuity of agricultural and rural development programmes; c) Create technical support centers for farmers; d) Promote agricultural research; e) Control the use of land for agricultural production purposes; f) Promote and monitor animal production and health; g) Promote the agricultural and fishing industry; h) Promote and monitor food production, including seed production; i) Manage Quarantine Services; j) Promote rural development, implementing a cooperative system for marketing agricultural production; k) Carry out feasibility studies for irrigation systems, water storage, as well as the construction of the related facilities; l) Manage forest resources and river basins in coordination with other ministers; m) Promote the industrial production, particularly for coffee cultivation; n) Manage water resources intended for agricultural purposes; o) Promote and monitor the fishing and aquaculture sector; p) Establish coordination mechanisms with other Government bodies; q) Manage National Parks, Protected Areas and Botanical Gardens; r) Ensure the protection and conservation of nature and biodiversity, supervising the implementation of the respective policy and monitoring activities harmful to the integrity of the national fauna and flora, in collaboration with related entities.

Entry into force notes
This Decree-Law enters into force on the day after its publication and takes effect on 1 January 2024.
