Abstract
This Act makes provision for the management of ports of Tonga, regulates various port-related activities such as pilotage and defines duties and powers of the Minister in respect of the management of harbours.
Ports to which this Act applies shall be those ports in Tonga that are not designated as ports to which the Ports Authority Act 1998 applies. The Act requires the Ministry to ensure the safe movement, loading, discharging, handling and storage of dangerous goods within a port and may direct the conditions under which dangerous goods may be loaded, discharged, handled or stored and grants powers to it to make rules relative to reception facilities as required by the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution at Sea. The Act prohibits the use a fishing nets or fishing by vessels in any navigable channel.
