Abstract
This Act: makes provision for the establishment of pounds; establishes rules relative to the impounding of animals, the disposal of impounded cattle and the treatment of animals in general and trespass by cattle; prohibits the cruel treatment of animals; and prescribes offences and penalties.
The Minister of Police may authorize the erection or use of public pounds and shall be responsible for management and supervision of such pounds. Owners or occupiers of cultivated or pasture land may seize trespassing cattle and shall bring seized cattle to the nearest pound within 24 hours after seizure. It shall be the duty of the pound keeper to inquire regarding the ownership of seized cattle. The Act defines offences in respect of cattle running loose and the cruel treatment of any type of animal kept in confinement. The Act also provides rules for the slaughtering of horses.
