Abstract
The Tonga Marine Aquarium Fishery Management and Development Plan is a national policy with a cross-sectoral approach. The timeframe of this Plan is 4 years covering the period of 2024-2027. The overarching goal of the plan is to ensure ecological sustainability through effective management and sustainable use of the marine aquarium fishery. This Plan applies to: (I) all wild-caught marine aquarium fish (including hard corals, soft corals, small invertebrates, and fish) collected within designated areas in Tonga's fisheries waters, for the purpose of export as ornamental marine aquarium products; (II) all cultured marine aquarium fish, for the purpose of export as ornamental marine aquarium products; (III) all licensed holders authorized to fish, collect, process, or export marine aquarium fish; (IV) all licensed vessels authorised to collect, transport, or ship marine aquarium fish; (V) all forms of fishing, including collecting and using any fishing gear, to harvest marine aquarium fish; (VI) all processing or holding facilities involved in handling and packaging marine aquarium fish for the purpose of exporting marine aquarium products.
