Abstract
This Notice provides for the designation by the Environmental Management Authority of the Nariva Swamp Managed Resource Protected Area as an Environmentally Sensitive Area in the sense of section 41 of the Environmental Management Act. The Notice shall not apply to private land in the Area. The purpose of the designation is the achievement of objectives as set out in part II of the Schedule to this Notice. The Schedule also sets out limitations of the use of land and permitted and mitigating measures. The principal objective of the designation is the protection of wildlife and biodiversity and compliance with international agreements in these fields, notably the Ramsar Convention, the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity and CITES. Principal objectives are the protection of the largest and most diverse freshwater wetland in Trinidad and Tobago containing mangroves, freshwater marsh, palm swamp, freshwater swampwoods and evergreen seasonal forests, and protection of rare and threatened species and their habitat.
