Abstract
The Regulations restrict demersal trawling for fish and shrimp in defined areas. Subject to this Regulation, demersal (bottom) trawling for fish or shrimp is permitted in the territorial waters of the North Coast at a distance outside off two nautical miles from that coast defined in the Schedule (reg. 3, comma 1). No trawling is permitted in the East Coast. Regulation 5 places restrictions on demersal trawling off the South Coast, whereas regulation 6 restricts trawling with non-artisanal trawlers in the Gulf of Paria. Regulation 7 places restrictions on use of stretched mesh, whereas regulation 8 concerns the use of chaffing gear. Demersal trawling within 12 nautical miles of the coast is permitted only on the north coast. The Regulations shall not apply to authorized training and research activities.
