Abstract
The Green Government Policy is a national policy with a cross-sectoral approach. The overall goal of this policy is to ensure the conservation of natural resources, pollution control and the adoption of clean and safe environmental practices at the government offices.
The conservation of natural resources will be strengthened through solid waste prevention, energy- and water savings, and proper disposal of all waste. Recycling and reuse activities will be supported by the Government to reduce the generation of waste. The use of water saving devices will be encouraged to reduce unnecessary water consumption at the government offices. The disposal of all electronic waste products that contain hazardous components will be conducted in an environmentally sound manner. The impact of the travel arrangements of the offices on the environment will be minimized by reducing the level of travel, reviewing pool vehicle needs and capabilities, and establishing remote access to network systems to allow officers to work from home. The Government shall take account of whole life costs through its procurement decisions, specify recycled products and refined mineral oils, and use eco-labels to help identify environmentally preferable products. The Government shall promote staff awareness of environmental issues through education, training and motivation of staff to work in an environmentally responsible manner, and to play a full part in developing new environmental conservation ideas and initiatives.
Climate change adaptation and mitigation will be strengthened with a focus on the reduction of the annual emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. Pollution control strategies will be intensified to reduce the contribution of the government offices to climate change and ozone depletion. The policy determines actions against the use of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, ozone-depleting substances, asbestos, hazardous substances, solvents and biodegradable substances.
