Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) of Trinidad and Tobago Under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Trinidad and Tobago's intended nationally determined contribution is a national policy with a multi-sectoral approach. The timeframe of the INDC is 18 years, aiming at reduction of the cumulative emissions of the three sectors between 2013 and 2030. The objective of this INDC is to reduce emissions in the transportation, power generation and industry sectors by 2030 in compliance with the objective of the UNFCCC.
Trinidad and Tobago's intended nationally determined contribution (INDC) is based on its Carbon Reduction Strategy addressing the major emitting sectors of the economy, such as the power generation, transportation and industrial sectors, as well as in compliance with the provisions of the National Climate Change Policy. Due to Trinidad and Tobago's vulnerability to the adverse impacts of climate change, a low carbon economy will be developed through mitigation and adaptation in order to assist in the achievement of sustainable development objectives. To this end, the resilience to climate change will be strengthened through the reduction of carbon emissions and reducing climate vulnerability in all sectors, in order to create green jobs and have significant co-benefits from an air quality and associated public health costs perspective, as well as enhance the coping ability and capacity to the adverse impacts of climate change. The emission reduction efforts will be financed partly through domestic funding and conditional on international climate financing including through the Green Climate Fund. In addition to INDC, policy measures for forest, land use and natural resources management will be developed to achieve greater mitigation of greenhouse gases.
