Abstract
This Act sets out provisions relative to the compulsory acquisition of land for public purposes by the state. The provisions concern, among other things: procedures for acquisition, compensation, registration of lands acquired and regulation-making powers of the Minister.
Land shall be declared to be land required for public purposes by an Order of the President. Parliament may approve such Order. The Act defines the functions of the Commissioner of Lands and the Registrar General in the process of acquisition. The Act also concerns (deemed) abandonment of acquisition. Disputes regarding compensation shall be resolved by a Judge of the High Court. The Act also provides for compensation in case of mortgaged land or land held under leasehold.
