Abstract
This Policy aims to protect Tuvalu from the impacts of climate change through bold and decisive actions that strengthen the resilience of people and natural ecosystems to climate change risks by 2030. The Policy vision is a strong and resilient Tuvalu that protects the identity, culture and existence of its people and meets commitment to environmental sustainability. The Policy overarching goals are to access to climate finance and strategic partnerships , to reduce vulnerability to climate change impacts, and to manage human mobility and protection of national sovereignty.
In agriculture sector the Policy aims to enhance household food security and climate-resilient agricultural practices. In fisheries sector the Policy provides for protection of marine biodiversity and sustainable management of oceans. The Policy further provides for strengthening and improving existing health sector planning and response to climate-induced health risks. As rainwater is the only source of fresh drinking water in Tuvalu, the text provides for effective water management through community participation and actions against impacts of climate change in water sector. The text outlines objectives for promoting and protecting coastal environments from rising sea levels and the impacts of climate change. The Policy describes the requirements for using renewable energy for a resilient future. The Policy contains 4 parts as follow: Introduction (1); Policy framework (2); Policy outcomes and objectives (3); Policy implementation (4).
