Abstract
Tuvalu’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 2025–2030 sets out a unified national framework to conserve and restore biodiversity by integrating traditional knowledge, community stewardship, and scientific approaches, fully aligned with the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Drawing on extensive consultations, it establishes 16 national targets addressing ecosystem restoration, species protection, sustainable resource use, pollution control, invasive species management, climate resilience, and inclusive governance. The NBSAP strengthens cross‑sectoral planning, embeds biodiversity into national development policies, enhances monitoring and reporting systems, and introduces a biodiversity finance strategy targeting USD 3 million for implementation. It reinforces Tuvalu’s commitments under regional and global agreements, including the Blue Pacific Strategy, Waigani and Noumea Conventions, and the BBNJ Agreement, while emphasizing the central role of cultural values, traditional governance, and community‑based management in safeguarding Tuvalu’s fragile island ecosystems.
