The Tuvalu National Energy Policy (TNEP) for 2009 aims to improve the well-being of the Tuvalu people by promoting the use of renewable energy resources by considering that are more cost-effective, reliable, affordable and environmentally sustainable than fossil fuel. The mission of the policy is to provide a framework for coordinating energy sector efforts and assistance while its vision is to achieve a cost-effective, reliable, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy system for Tuvalu. The text provides for three principal energy policy considerations by referring to supply issues; utilisation; and environmental issues. The text provides for reducing dependancy of Tuvalu on imported petroleum fuels generally and in transport sector and to develop supply of energy in the urban and rural areas. The Policy outlines requirements for the development of renewable energy resources to diversify the energy mix in Tuvalu offers and to reduce the adverse impacts caused by non-environmentally friendly energy production and use. The text further provides for key strategic areas and policies and structure of the Policy.
