Abstract
This second Agriculture Statistics Strategic Plan serves as a nationwide sectoral guide for the agriculture sector, aiming to provide harmonized, coordinated, and high-quality statistics crucial for designing interventions and making informed decisions. It also functions as a tool to monitor the sector's performance in producing and managing key agriculture-related statistics. The significance of agriculture statistics lies in their contribution to determining the sector's growth, GDP percentage share, and measuring employment and poverty reduction. These statistics play a fundamental role in decision-making processes by establishing numerical benchmarks, facilitating monitoring and evaluation of policy or program progress, and ensuring policies align with initial objectives while identifying areas for improvement. The initial Agriculture Statistics Strategic Plan (ASSP I) was developed by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania from 2014/15-2018/19 to enhance the agricultural statistics system, aligning with the Tanzania Statistics Master Plan and other national strategies. ASSP II's development objective is to enhance the contribution and utilization of official agricultural statistics in policy formulation, planning, and informed decision-making in both public and private sectors. Specifically, ASSP II focuses on three strategic objectives (1) strengthening legal and institutional frameworks; (2) enhancing the capacity to provide agricultural statistics; (3) improving data production, management, and utilization. The execution framework of ASSP II includes governance, institutional setup, coordination, potential risks, an annual work plan, budget, and advocacy. Various partners will assume specific roles in implementing ASSP II.
