Abstract
These By-laws shall apply to animals kept for commercial farming purposes within the urban area of the Karatu District Council. No person shall keep such animals within the urban area without a written permit of the District Executive Director. Animals shall be kept in structures approved by the Council and movement of those animals shall be require a permit of the District Executive Director, subject to exemptions listed in by-law 8 (by-law 4). No animals shall be kept in dwellings. The Health Officer shall have certain powers to take measures to prevent spreading of diseases and otherwise for the protection of public health. By-law 14 provides for the impounding of straying animals.
