Abstract
This Act amends various written laws including the Economic and Organized Crime Control Act. This Act, among other things, gives a new meaning to "Court" for purposes of that Act and inserts a definition of “corruption offence”. The Court for purposes of the principal Act shall be Corruption and Economic Crimes Division, which is established within the High Court by this Act. This Act also sets out the jurisdictional competence of the Court, provides with respect to proceedings and makes the Whistleblower and Witness Protection Act and any other relevant law applicable in matters relating to witness protection under this Act. The principal Act is also amended in the First Schedule, which defines economic offences. Such offences include offences under specified provisions of wildlife legislation (Cap. 282 and 283), offences committed under the Territorial Sea and Exclusive Economic Zone Act, an offence under section 18 of the Deep Sea Fishing Authority Act, an offences section 18 of the Mining Act, an offence under section 32, 18 or 114 of the Tanzania Food and Drugs Control Act, and an offence under section 86 or 89 of the Forest Act.
