Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Poland on cooperation in the field of water management on border waters.

The Contracting Parties will cooperate in the field of border waters management, related to sections of transboundary rivers, surface watercourses, surface and groundwater crossing state borders. The cooperation shall be carried out in the following forms: (a) conducting hydrological, hydrometeorological, hydrogeological studies, observations and measurements and evaluation of the results of these studies, as well as data exchange in this field; (b) joint studies of waters for the purpose of determining their quantity and quality, with particular attention to radioactive substances; (c) compilation of water management balances; (d) coordination of water intake for the population, industry and other water consumers; (e) transfer of waters between border waters and other basins; (f) protection of surface water and groundwater against pollution; (g) construction and joint use of waterworks; and (h) protection against flooding and ice. The Contracting Parties commit: (a) to maintain border waters and waterworks in proper order and management conditions; (b) coordinate water protection measures and provide mutual assistance; and (c) exchange of information and consultations. The Contracting Parties undertake to use border waters sparingly and to protect them from excessive abstraction. The Contracting Parties pledge to maintain the purity of transboundary waters, reduce water pollution and abstain from discharge of effluent waste water into transboundary waterbodies.
