Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Slovak Republic on issues of water management in border waters.

The Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Slovak Republic, realizing that the protection and use of border waters can be carried out only through close cooperation, desiring to resolve issues of water management in frontier waters on the basis of good neighborliness and mutual benefit for the purpose of rational use of water, conservation of water resources, environmental protection, have agreed as follows: (a) not to carry out on frontier waters, without mutual agreement, water management measures that would have an adverse effect on water management conditions in the territory of another State; (b) to keep the channels of frontier watercourses, reservoirs and other hydraulic structures in frontier waters on the territory of their States in good condition and use them in such a way as not to cause mutual harm, or to prevent worsening of water management conditions; (c) to mutually inform each other about their long-term plans for the development of the water sector, as well as actions that affect the state of border waters; and (d) the Parties shall have the right to the border waters (until they agree otherwise) to half of the natural water that flows, and not increased by technical works. The Parties shall systematically monitor the purity of the border waters by jointly taking water samples, analyzing them and jointly evaluating the results of these analyses.
