Law No. 962-IV “On land protection”.

This Law establishes legal, economic and social grounds for land protection with a view of ensuring rational land tenure, soil rehabilitation and improvement, conservation of ecological functions of soil and environmental protection. Object of particular land protection shall be total land cover (soil) within the national boundaries of Ukraine. Basic principles of land protection shall be as follows: (a) ensuring land (soil) protection as the principal national wealth of the Ukrainian people; (b) priority of requirements of environmental security and land tenure as natural resource and basic means of production of agricultural commodities; (c) compensation of damages caused by the infringement of the national legislation on land protection; (d) rate setting and limitation of impact of economic activities on soil; (e) combination of the arrangements of economic incentives and legal responsibility in the sphere of land protection; and (f) public participation and transparency in the sphere of land protection. This Law contains IX Sections divided into 56 Articles. Section I lays down general provisions. Section II establishes powers of state authorities and local government bodies in the field of land protection. Section III regards supervision in the field of land protection. Section IV establishes the system of measures in the field of land protection. Section V establishes state standards and regulations in the field of land protection. Section VI regards land protection in the process of economic activities. Section VII regards financing in the field of land and soil protection. Section VIII establishes liability for the infringement of the legislation on land protection. Section IX lays down final provisions.
