Order No. 1134-r of the Cabinet of Ministers validating the Water Strategy of Ukraine for the period until 2050.

This Strategy defines the main principles of state policy in the field of water use and protection and water resources regeneration and is aimed at achieving mutual consistency related to their use, increasing the level of water security and reducing water resources management risks to an acceptable level on the basis of sustainable integrated water resources management.
Strategic goals shall be as follows: Goal 1. Ensuring equal access to high-quality and safe drinking water and appropriate sanitary and preventive measures. Goal 2. Improving the qualitative status of waterbodies by achieving and maintaining “good” ecological and chemical status of surface waterbodies, the ecological potential of artificial or significantly modified surface waterbodies, and the quantitative and chemical status of groundwater bodies. Goal 3. Ensuring the necessary amount of water resources to restore and improve aquatic ecosystems and achieve sustainable water abstraction and water supply. Goal 4. Reduce the growing risks of water scarcity and water surplus. Goal 5. Implement integrated water resources management based on the basin principle and the OECD principles for water management in river basin districts, coastal and marine waters.
