Order No. 289 of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine validating the Regulation on sampling methods for determining the maximum permissible levels of pesticide residues in products of plant and animal origin for the purposes of state control.

This Regulation establishes procedures for selecting samples of animal and plant products for laboratory testing (examination) for pesticide content. The purpose of sampling is to obtain a representative sample of consignments of products of animal and plant origin for conducting laboratory tests (examination) to determine the conformity of pesticides with the maximum allowable levels established by the regulatory legal acts of Ukraine and, in the absence of such, with the standards specified by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. Products that meet the maximum allowable levels of pesticides are toxicologically safe. Maximum permissible levels of pesticides for vegetables, eggs or dairy products are established with the consideration of the maximum levels that can be present in composite samples, that is, obtained from different parts of processed (manufactured) products, and are intended to reflect the average level of residues in batches. The maximum permissible levels of pesticides for meat and poultry meat are established with the consideration of the maximum level that can be found in the tissues of a separate processed (re-processed) animals or poultry. That is, the maximum permissible levels for meat and poultry are applied to a single point sample, and the maximum permissible levels for vegetable, egg or dairy foods are applied to a composite composite sample obtained from one to ten point samples. Samples shall be taken from each lot of from a separate part of each lot.
