Abstract
Physical and legal persons who keep and use livestock for agricultural purposes must comply with legislative and normative requirements regulating this sphere, and also sanitary-hygienic, veterinary rules and norms, and also to prevent violations of the rights and legitimate interests of other physical and legal entities and should not endanger the safety of people and livestock, including through cruel treatment thereof. This Regulation applies to holders of animals kept and used for obtaining products and raw materials of animal origin. The use of livestock in agriculture is based on the following principles: (a) cruel treatment of animals is incompatible with the requirements of morality and humanity, causes moral harm to a person; (b) provision of living conditions for livestock species that meet their biological, breeding and individual features; (c) property rights and other proprietary rights to livestock in the event of cruel treatment may be terminated by a court decision by means of bailout thereof or confiscation; (d) prohibition of cruel methods of slaughtering of livestock, including poisoning of livestock; (e) responsibility for cruel treatment of livestock; and (f) ensuring life and health of people when using livestock in agriculture. Slaughter of animals is performed after the loss of their consciousness provided that the methods inducing unconsciousness will not cause the livestock additional suffering.
