Abstract
In order to ensure the protection of waterbodies in areas of water abstraction for centralized water supply of the population, medical and health needs, sanitary protection zones are established. Sanitary protection zones of waterbodies are created on all household and drinking water supply systems, regardless of their subordination or type of source of water supply. Depending on the type of water supply source (surface, underground), the degree of protection and the risk of microbial and chemical contamination, the characteristics of sanitary, hydrogeological and hydrological conditions, as well as the nature of pollutants, the boundaries of the sanitary protection zones and their individual zones are established. The sanitary protection zones of surface and underground waterbodies are part of water protection zones and are divided into three special zones: (a) the first zone (strict regime) includes the territory of accommodation water intake, water supply facilities and water supply channel; and (b) the second and third zones (restrictions and observations) include the territory designated for the protection of water supply sources from pollution.
