Abstract
This Act makes provision for the establishment, registration, operation and management of cooperatives in Uganda and related matters.
The Act sets out criteria and conditions for registration of cooperatives with the registrar who shall also act as commissioner of cooperative development. Appeal against decisions of the registrar may be with the board of the Uganda Cooperative Alliance ltd. The Act further, among other things, defines duties and privileges of cooperative societies, provides with respect to their management and operation, defines functions of the board of the Uganda Cooperative Alliance ltd. and provides for contracts of societies with its members for purpose of disposal of agricultural produce. The Act also provides for the settlement of disputes by arbitrators and appeal.
