Abstract
The Forest Stewardship Council's (FSC) National Forest Stewardship Standard of the Republic of Uganda provides a framework for sustainable forest management tailored to Uganda’s ecological, social, and legal context. Developed through a participatory process involving diverse stakeholders, the standard aligns with FSC’s global principles and Uganda’s national policies. It applies to all forest types and operations seeking FSC certification, promoting responsible practices that balance environmental, social, and economic objectives. Though voluntary, it supports improved forest stewardship, market access, and contributions to biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction. The standard applies to all forest types in Uganda—natural forests and plantations—categorized by size, management intensity, and risk, in line with FSC’s Scale, Intensity and Risk (SIR) Guidelines.
