Abstract
The National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan III (NBSAPIII) outlines Uganda's goals for 2025-2030, aiming to strengthen ecosystem resilience, foster sustainable biotechnological benefits, and ensure equitable sharing of resources. The strategy provides an extensive overview of Uganda’s biodiversity, addressing its current status, trends, and conservation efforts. It covers species diversity across taxa, focusing on ecosystems in protected and non-protected areas, including aquatic and belowground biodiversity. The impact of biodiversity on human well-being in sectors like agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and tourism is explored, emphasizing links to health and biosafety. Major threats to biodiversity such as habitat loss, pollution, climate change, poaching, and invasive species are analyzed, along with national policies aimed at mitigating these issues. The strategy includes measures for awareness, education, monitoring, and securing funding to support biodiversity conservation.
